The number of emergency and urgent power outages in Ukraine has decreased, but if the weather worsens, the outage schedules may be reinstated.
This was stated in an interview with OBOZ.UA by the director of the Energy Research Center, Alexander Kharchenko.
He also noted that even support from Western partners cannot fully compensate for the losses of the energy system. Currently, the stability of energy supply is maintained due to two factors.
“Firstly, we have significantly improved our methods for protecting and restoring the energy system, which is yielding positive results. After four attacks with intervals of 10-14 days, the system is still operational. Secondly, the weather plays a significant role. Above-zero temperatures reduce electricity consumption,” – Kharchenko explained.
The expert is convinced that at temperatures of -5 or -10 degrees, Ukrainians would already have to face hourly restrictions on electricity supply due to generation shortages. However, under current conditions, domestic electricity production fully meets the country's needs.
"We are quickly repairing the damaged elements of the system. Restoration work is ongoing, particularly building new lines to bypass damaged energy sources. We continue to work without pause, as we have no other choice," he added.
Kharchenko emphasized that the energy sector is handling a vast amount of work every day, and this process will continue.
“We are currently in a constant competition: the enemy destroys, we restore. I believe we will prevail,” – the expert concluded.
